2009 was one of the worst years to date for the auto market. Some of the biggest brand names, such as General Motors and Chrysler were forced to file for bankruptcy protection. While simultaneously firing a large portion of employees, they were also removing their most famous cars from their line up, such as the Hummer, Saturn, Saab and Pontiac. And Italian car manufacturer, Fiat SpA, bought out Chrysler, but was under the control of a chief executive from Canada, named Sergio Marchionne.

At the same time, Ford was some how still surviving and then some. They were even refusing offers such as government aid, in order to help keep their counterparts afloat. After all, if they didn’t have Chrysler or GM, they would also be out of business. They were even releasing new models, such as the Fusion, Taurus, and Flex.

Toyota suffered particularly, being that they suffered from doing several recalls over the past year, and along with Honda, they were forced to leave racing, for example Formula 1, to help save money and fund new projects.

Nissan and BMW were still creating new models despite also feeling a lack of cash flow, but somehow came out on top, with consumers responding.

Vehicles these days are not lasting nearly as long as they used to, so here are a few tips to help you lengthen your cars life by creating better habits.

First, use the best fuel you can find. Cheap or bad fuel will clog up the workings inside you car, and create more problems in the long run. Cleaner burning gas is available from several stations, including BP, which will help your cars performance, and keep it running clean. You will use less gas in the long run.

Next is be sure to clean your air filters often, as they allow oxygen into the engine, and filter out the dirt and dust. Also use a synthetic motor oil, which will make your car last longer and perform better. It will help eliminate corrosive acids and soot and other deposits from affecting the engine.

Being sure you are purchasing. and keeping up on replacing, your cars tires is also important. Air pressure and tire tread monthly, which will keep your car performing consistently and keep you from getting any unwanted flats.

By exercising better habits when caring for your car, you can add years to it’s life, and be sure it keeps performing its best for years to come. Here are some tips to keep better car of your car.

Keep your break pads clean, as it will result in quicker stops and prevent unnecessary wear and tear on the car. If they wear down too much, it can become a domino effect and cause damage to other parts of the car. Keep up with your car’s fluids as well, there are many that need refilling and checking such as the transmission fluid, coolant, radiator and power steering fluid. Some you can do yourself, others need a mechanic.

Car batteries usually last between three to five years, so be sure to check up on it’s performance over this time, be sure there is no leaks, and replace it when it is time to.

Wiper blades don’t seem that important, but they can scratch or damage the glass and workings of your car if they are not properly replaced and looked after. Also be sure to get regular tune ups, to be sure that everything is doing fine before any major problems result from things that have been overlooked.

You don’t need to save up, or spend your life savings on a green car, or a hybrid from a big name brand, to be friendly to the environment. The car you are driving now can very well be “Environmentally Friendly” as long as you follow some tips. For example, ways to conserve gas is a great way to save money, and help the environment.

Many things can lead to the over consumption of gas. For example, low air pressure in your tires can create more resistance and you might use more gas to compensate. Keeping up with regular tune ups will also help, to be sure that everything is running as smoothly as possible, and handle any problems that could be costing you.

When you have the air conditioning serviced in your car, be sure the mechanics know how to handle the refrigerants. In old cars, the AC can contain fluids that have ozone depleting chemicals.

Check to see if your car uses Mercury to activate lights throughout your car, which is a highly toxic. Many AAA club members now offer a service that will switch the mercury to something less hazardous.

Pagani, the flamboyant Italian supercar brand has launched it’s fastest vehicle ever, The Pagani Zonda R.

The new car has taken 3 years to complete and comes as a result of a customer asking Pagani to make ‘the ultimate track car’.

As a track vehicle, the Zonda R’s design has not been held back by any road legal requirements, meaning the full talent of the designers has been unleashed.

The Zonda R’s body and chassis are constructed from aluminum, titanium, magnesium and carbon fibre.

The new vehicle shares only 10 per cent of its parts with the Zonda F meaning that the car has been completely redesigned from the bottom up.

Pagani says that the Zonda R is capable of reaching 62MPH in just 3 seconds and has a top speed of 233MPH.

The price of the new machine is a staggering £1.24m plus tax which means that it costs 3 times that of the Zonda F. Only 16 will be made and 13 have already been sold.
