When in a car accident, many people do not know the basics to filing a claim. If not filed properly you could miss out on money and damages that are owed to you. There are many do’s and don’ts when filing a complaint. Let’s review the do’s first.
The first thing you will want to do is contact your insurance company. If there are no injuries this should be the very first thing to do. Locate your insurance policy and find out what is and is not covered. Gather any information about the auto accident you can. This includes picture of the scene and any police reports. Also make a note of the other parties insurance information. Save any receipts for bills that have occurred due to the accident. This included auto repair bills and hospital bills. Make sure that you are upfront and honest with your car accident claim. This will save you time and possible fraud charges.
Your biggest do not is accepting fault for the accident. Make sure you are honest in details but do not accept fault. Do not sign a waiver until you are satisfied with the claim amount. Once the waiver is signed, it is considered final payment.
