Requirements of a CDL

Anyone who is thinking about applying for a commercial driver’s license must know what will be required by the Department of Motor Vehicles.  You must be at least eighteen years old and to drive the interstate, you must be twenty-one.  Depending on the type of load that is being carried and whether it is going intrastate or interstate, there can also be drug and alcohol testing, having a medical certificate of health along with other requirements. 

You can take practice tests ahead of time so that you are prepared. A CDL Practice Test can be found online, and is the perfect way to find out if you understand your information. As you test again and again, the repetition will allow you to learn all the material you need to know. 
Reading and speaking the English language is another requirement so that you can converse comfortably with the general public. You must also meet the physical qualifications and each state has its own CDL requirements.  In California, for example, the California truck driving schools sees that each applicant passes a vision test along with the basic requirements.  The state of Texas has applicants surrender their current driver’s license.
